Dan joined the governing body in summer 2024. Having worked in Fintech for 14 years, Dan leads the Fintech Skills committee at Fintech North. After reading Peter Hitches book: ‘A revolution betrayed’ Dan was inspired to help his local school to support skills development and social mobility. Hello, my name is Maddy Kanda and I am thrilled to be elected as staff governor for Wykebeck Primary school. I have been a teacher at Wykebeck Primary school since 2021, currently I am a year 5 class teacher and the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator). Prior to this, I have been subject leader for Mathematics and Design & Technology; this has equipped me with valuable understanding of the national curriculum. As a teacher and SENCO, I have the privilege of working with children across all year groups, our amazing families and all school staff to ensure that our school is inclusive for all children to thrive.
Removing barriers to learning and championing every child is at the heart of my teaching philosophy and I strive to achieve this everyday through the school values of: Resilience, Responsibility, Respect, Inclusion, Community and Kindness. At Wykebeck Primary School we understand how important It is to foster positive relationships with families and build a sense of local community. I always look forward to working alongside the governing body to discuss the progression of Wykebeck Primary School, our children’s achievements and community events. My role as staff governor is a fantastic opportunity to link governors and staff together, providing positive feedback and effective communication between both.

I have a background in secondary and higher education, though I have worked with primary aged children through university outreach programmes and the wider participation charity the Brilliant Club. I am a trained secondary teacher and now work in higher education. I wanted to support the local community by being a school governor and look forward to my time with Wykebeck working with other governors and staff to the benefit and wellbeing of our pupils
