Hello, my name is Maddy Kanda and I am thrilled to be elected as staff governor for Wykebeck Primary school. I have been a teacher at Wykebeck Primary school since 2021, currently I am a year 5 class teacher and the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator). Prior to this, I have been subject leader for Mathematics and Design & Technology; this has equipped me with valuable understanding of the national curriculum. As a teacher and SENCO, I have the privilege of working with children across all year groups, our amazing families and all school staff to ensure that our school is inclusive for all children to thrive.
Removing barriers to learning and championing every child is at the heart of my teaching philosophy and I strive to achieve this everyday through the school values of: Resilience, Responsibility, Respect, Inclusion, Community and Kindness. At Wykebeck Primary School we understand how important It is to foster positive relationships with families and build a sense of local community. I always look forward to working alongside the governing body to discuss the progression of Wykebeck Primary School, our children’s achievements and community events. My role as staff governor is a fantastic opportunity to link governors and staff together, providing positive feedback and effective communication between both.

My name is Michael, and I am proud to serve as a parent governor at Wykebeck Primary School. I have worked in educational settings since leaving school and qualified as a Primary School Teacher in 2016. Over the years, I have taken on a variety of roles within schools, including subject leadership and wider responsibilities to support school improvement. I have also completed National Professional Qualifications in Leading Teacher Development and Senior Leadership. These experiences have equipped me with a deep understanding of both classroom practice and school leadership. I am passionate about supporting all children to achieve their full potential and am committed to using my knowledge and experience to contribute positively to the strategic direction of the school. As a governor, I aim to help ensure the best possible outcomes for the children of Gipton and the wider community.

I currently manage a large GP practice in North Leeds where I am responsible for everything from keeping the tea and coffee stocked to overseeing a budget of more than £2 million. As I approach retirement from the NHS, I'm looking forward to exploring new interests and contributing my experience in a meaningful way.
I was drawn to the role of school governor for several reasons. Professionally, I hope my background in strategy, finance and people managementwill be valuable to Wykebeck Primary School. Personally, as a grandmother to two children with special needs, I have developed a deeper understanding of the challenges and joys of supporting children with additional needs. I'm keeen to use this insight to advocate for these pupils through the governing body and relevant working groups.
Supporting people to achieve their potential is a central part of my current role, and I'm very much looking forward to working with my fellow governors, staff and pupils to help deliver the school's vision for Wykebeck.
Outside of work, I enjoy socialising with friends, going to the theatre and cinema, and looking after my lively toy poodle. I also love keeping in touch with my six grandchildren, who are spread across England, Ireland and the USA, often through many lively Teams calls.
