Following our most recent Ofsted inspection on 31st March 2026, we are proud of the strengths the inspection team have highlighted and in particular, our commitment to strong strategic leadership, inclusive, caring practice and personal development opportunities for our children.

We are pleased that inspectors recognised many important strengths within our school community, particularly the caring, inclusive and nurturing environment we provide for our children and families every day.

The report highlights that safeguarding standards are fully met and recognises the strong culture of care across the school. Inspectors found that pupils feel safe, relationships are warm and respectful, and that staff act quickly and effectively to support children whenever concerns arise. We are especially proud that Ofsted recognised the commitment of our team to ensuring that every child is known, valued and supported.

The inspection acknowledged our strong inclusive ethos and the determination of leaders and staff to meet the diverse needs of all pupils. Inspectors recognised that support for children with additional needs is carefully planned and thoughtfully delivered through our dedicated provision areas. They noted that these spaces help pupils to feel calm, settled and engaged, enabling them to thrive in school. The report also highlights the positive impact of our work with families and external agencies to ensure children receive the support they need both academically and emotionally.

Importantly, inspectors recognised that disadvantaged pupils and pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities are supported to participate fully in school life. They commented positively on the way staff adapt learning, provide pastoral care and remove barriers so that all children can access opportunities, enrichment activities and wider experiences.

We are also proud that Ofsted recognised the strength of our pastoral support and personal development offer. The report celebrates our PSHE curriculum, wider opportunities, leadership roles for pupils, educational visits and extra-curricular activities that help children develop confidence, responsibility and pride in their school community. Inspectors commented positively on pupils’ behaviour, kindness and willingness to support one another. We are proud of how our children conducted themselves during the inspection and in particular, of those who took the time to speak with inspectors over the two day visit.

The report acknowledges that leaders have a clear understanding of the school’s strengths and areas for improvement and recognises the positive steps already underway to improve teaching, attendance and outcomes for pupils. Inspectors noted that these improvements are beginning to have a positive impact, particularly in phonics, attendance and pupils’ subject knowledge.

As a school, we fully accept the areas identified for further development, particularly around consistency in teaching and ensuring all pupils achieve as highly as possible. We are already working hard on these priorities and are confident that the actions we have in place will continue to strengthen outcomes for our children. The areas where we have been graded as ‘needs attention’ are already being actioned and inspectors feel confident that the leadership team can manage the improvements needed with more time. We will be working closely with the Local Authority to keep those improvements at the heart of our work here and we are grateful for our families’ support with that. In particular, attendance is a challenge that we need to improve. Children not attending school are also not able to learn sufficiently well and so attendance will remain a key improvement target in coming weeks and years.

We are grateful to our pupils, staff, governors and families for the continued support, encouragement and trust placed in our school. Wykebeck Primary School plays a vital role in our community, and we remain absolutely committed to ensuring every child is safe, supported and able to flourish regardless of their starting point or individual needs.
